Why Silk
The Silk Ritual Cloth
Why silk, and not a towel
A fair question — and one worth answering plainly. You invest in your skin every day. The way you dry it matters more than most people realise.
A towel drags. Silk lifts.
Cotton and paper towels are abrasive. Every time you press one to your face, the fibres grip and pull at the surface of the skin — creating friction and tugging at the barrier at the exact moment it is softest and most vulnerable: freshly cleansed.
Silk is different. The Silk Ritual Cloth is a double-layer, 25 momme Grade 6A mulberry charmeuse, generously sized at 18″ × 10.5″. Its weave is smooth and dense, so it lifts water away instead of dragging it off — far less friction, far less disruption right before your serums and moisturisers go on. It is the same principle behind sleeping on silk: less friction, calmer skin.
Press, don't rub
The ritual is simple. After cleansing, hold the cloth to your face and gently press. Let the silk absorb the water rather than wiping it away. Your skin stays calm, intact, and ready for whatever you apply next.
Care & longevity
Built to be washed. Built to last.
A fair concern — and the one we hear most: won't washing degrade the silk? It won't, not when it's cared for properly. At 25 momme, this silk is dense and durable, made to be used daily and laundered often. Silk ages from heat and harsh detergent, not from ordinary use.
- i Hand wash, or use a delicates bag, in cool water.
- ii Wash with a gentle, pH-balanced cleanser made for delicates — never bleach or fabric softener.
- iii Do not wring or twist. Press the water out gently.
- iv Lay flat or hang to air dry, away from direct heat and sun.
- v Never tumble dry. Heat is what shortens the life of silk.
We recommend our Silk & Intimates Wash. It's pH-balanced and formulated specifically for silk and fine fabrics — the gentlest way to keep your cloth soft, luminous, and long-lasting. A small capful in cool water is all it takes.
Treated this way, your cloth holds its sheen and its softness for years.
Questions
Is a silk cloth really better than a soft cotton towel?
Yes — the difference is friction. Even a soft cotton towel has a textured, absorbent surface that grips and pulls at the skin. Silk's smooth weave moves across the skin with almost no drag, which means less irritation to the barrier, especially right after cleansing.
Won't washing wear the silk out over time?
No. Degradation comes from heat and harsh chemicals, not from use. Cool water, a gentle pH-balanced wash such as our Silk & Intimates Wash, and air drying keep the fibres intact and the finish luminous for years. The double-layer, 25 momme weave is built specifically to be laundered often.
How often should I wash it?
Rotate it like any face cloth — every few uses, or more often if you prefer. Because it's built to be laundered, frequent gentle washing won't harm it. Many find it easiest to keep two or three in rotation.
Can it be ironed?
Yes — though it rarely needs it. Laid flat to dry, the silk stays smooth on its own. If you'd like to press it, use your iron's lowest (silk) setting on the reverse side, ideally with a thin cloth between the iron and the silk, while it's just slightly damp. Skip the steam — high heat and hot bursts are the only things that shorten silk's life.
Do I use it before or after my skincare?
After cleansing, to dry — before your serums and treatments. Pressing your face dry with silk leaves the skin calm and undisturbed, so the products you apply next go onto an intact barrier.
